About the SVCC

The Stour Valley Canoe Club was formed in September 1993 and meets most Saturday mornings, between 9:00am and 12:00am at the club house in the grounds of the Milldown School.

The members of the club range from a minimum of 10 years to, thoes of a more mature ages. From absolute beginners to accomplished white water kayakers and canoeists, we all have one thing in common, we're crazy about kayaking/canoeing.

Our usual venue is the River Stour at Blandford and we also have agreements with local landowners that allow us access to various parts of the river between Sturminster Newton and Wimborne. The Club is affiliated to the British Canoe Union (BCU) and BCU qualified instructors teaching 1 star to 3 star skills with an emphasis on river safety within a fun, safe environment.

We don't just stay in Dorset though, in a short time you could be competent enough to join us on a single or multi-day trip down a white water river like the Exe and Barle in Devon or spend a day on the rapids at Symonds Yat in Hereford.

Our multi-day trips take us to a number of different rivers in Devon and Wales as well as a variety of white water centers/courses around the UK and Europe.

We also enjoy trips to the Dorset, Devon & Cornwall coastline to take advantage of the local surf and have regular monthly trips to Clayesmore Schools' swimming pool where we develop our rolling and rescue skills.

If you'd like to try canoeing or kayaking with Stour Valley Canoe Club, check our programme for club dates and your first Saturday morning session is completely free.

All you need is a change of clothes (just in case) and maybe a hot drink.

If you like to join the club there is an annual fee of £20 for adults and £10 for under 16.
A general Saturday morning cost £3.00 or £2.00 for the unwaged.

If you don't have your own equipment we have a variety available to hire:
A Paddle, Cag and Buoyancy Aid: £1.00.
A Kayak or Canoe: £2.00.
