The 2005 & 2006 races were cancelled the day before the race, due to adverse weather in both cases creating some impossible river conditions. In 2005, heavy rainfall caused the river to burst its banks. The water level was so high the start bridge was completely impassable. In 2006, river levels were also high, though not as high as 2005! High winds a week before the race also played a factor, south of Shillingstone, the river was blocked in three places by fallen trees.
